Some ‘scientific’ toys
Over many years of teaching I have acquired a large number of toys which can be used to illustrate certain principles of physics. Some of these are shown below in the hope that others may find them of interest.
A good ‘scientific’ toy is one that raises the question “That’s curious, what makes it do that?” Whenever possible I have tried to suggest an answer as to why it does that. I am open to correction.
Please note that I cannot supply any of the toys shown – you will have to make your own collection if you wish to use any of the ideas. Sources include toyshops, joke shops and ‘freebies’ as given away in cereal packets or Christmas crackers.
